Television advert analysis

Television advert analysis

1. What is the ad for / what is the message?
This advert is advertising the song 'Come together' by the Beatles, the producer of the advert is amazon music, the message of the advert is to draw in the primary audience (music lovers, teen/young adult ages) to pay and use there music streaming service.

2. Who is the target audience?  (refer to target audience throughout - it is vital)
The target (primary) audience for this advert would be music lovers round the ages of 15 to 25, the reason for the younger generation being more interested in this video is because its all animated and this draws in the younger generation, this may want teenagers to pay for amazon music giving them a big profit as most teenagers like to listen to music.
The secondary audience would be more of the older generation, from 30 to round about 60+, the reason is because the song being played is come together by the Beatles which would of been more to there time with music, them re hearing the song will possibly want them to buy amazon music in order to hear it more and start there own playlist.

3. When was the advert aired / when would you expect it to be aired?
The official 'Amazon music' published the video on YouTube on Nov 18, 2019, which means it would have been on aired on TV round that time, the advert would have most likely been on from round 12 till dinner time as that's when most of the primary audience would have been watching the tv, the advert may have also been aired on music channels.

4. What form does the ad take?
The advert is a some what of a series from amazon music that show their audience what great music (modern or classic) they play, it is an animated advert with special effects at the end, the adverts animation involves a microphone, a bass guitar, an electric guitar and drums all shown playing to the beat of the song in the advert.

5. What style is the ad / what persuasion techniques are used?
The adverts style is aimed at music, its also nostalgic to most viewers as listening to a very well known classic song that the whole family can dance to the song as it draws them in, the advert does contain celebrity endorsement as pictures of the band are shown on the front of there Abby road album cover, the company's main goal with the advert could have been they wanted the audience to participate to the song as it plays making them want to watch the advert more.

6. Does the ad follow AIDA? If so, how?
The way the advert attracts ATTENTION is from the company's choice of music Come Together by The Beatles, I believe this classic song would draw in the whole family with its good beat and its amazing animation off all instruments that helped create the song, its also giving the audience a taste of what good music it plays.

Amazon Music's INTEREST at the end of the video shows the viewers, its not only normal music its in HD and your able to stream high quality audio explaining you get what u pay for if you buy the product, the company itself is Amazon at a first which is one of the UKs biggest marketing brands ever, there service is much worth what's its priced at.

The DESIRE comes from the classic song being played, its a draw in to listen to music almost like the viewers have been hypnotised to listen to music but on amazon music, the audience puts in consideration when listening to the song they could tap there leg, nod there head or sing along to the song that's the draw in amazon wants for there advert because its catchy.

The ACTION taken from the advert is right near the end when the bass is about to drop the advert tells you ''A Voice Is All You Need'' this is telling the audience directly that they want people to sing along and have a good time listening to there music and that all the audience needs to do is sing with the help of amazon music, they can sing to there favourite songs.

7. Discuss the characteristics of products / services:
  • Benefits offered- The advert doesn't offer any benefits it only focuses on 1 band in the advert
  • Advantages over similar- The advert has no comment about prices or being more superior than other company's with the same product.
  • USP
  • Lifestyle appeal- Amazon music has made the advert based on a very well know classic band, this may be a good way to sell there product as they are known from mostly older and fairy younger generations making the song catchy to all ages and also the product of all ages too.

  • Brand identity- The company's brand name is eye catching as the company is very well know throughout the country as amazon is good with its advertising and the rate it sells its products, the little smile/ arrow below the word amazon is the company's logo it could mean that the company is always moving as it shows progress in the company. The company's colour choices can be from black, white, yellow and blue, theses colours can be seen as noticeable on an advert or billboard, the company's meaning from the advert is to give great high quality music to there customers.

8. Who is responsible for regulating this advert (and all advertising) in the UK?
The 2 company's responsible are ASA and CAP, there jobs are to monitor new and on going adverts to make sure they are suitable to be seen by the public, any advert goes under strict guidelines before it is released, the systems used for regulating adverts in the UK are called 'self-regulation' and 'co-regulation'.

9.  Analyse the codes and conventions of the advert's construction

  • Mise-en-scene & iconography- The mise-en-scene in the adverts brings up back to thee classic cover photo of the Beatles Abby road album giving the viewers a feel of how royal and classic this advert is. The icomography in the aadvert shows off he instruments played to create the song the viewer is listening to throughtout the advert adding more of a meaning to this classic advert making it feel more alive.

  • Angles- The camera shots used in the advert show an all 4 people body shot from a slightly high angle, this shot adds more detail to the lighting in the picture as there shadows are visable to the audience.

  • Shot types, framing & composition- the shot being taken in the picture is a wide/long shot. The camera used in the shot was a "Hasselblad camera with a 50mm wide-angle lens, aperture f22, at 1/500 seconds". (This picture is a plan from Paul McCartney on of The Beatles)
  • Sketch for the Abbey Road album cover photo shoot, 8 August 1969

  • Camera movement- The movement in the advert focuses on the key parts of the advert like all the instruments and the album cover of the song.

  • Iconography- at the very start of the advert we see a microphone, but in the first second we see what looks the the zebra crossing on the abbey road cover photo, this is very clever of the producers of the advert to do as its almost like a little 'Easter egg' to the audience.

  • Editing- The pace of the advert is quite quick, it goes to the beat of the song which makes it more luring and entertaining to the viewers, it skims through to every object used in the advert and lastly finishes up on a slow zoom out of the album cover picture

  • Lighting- The lighting used in the advert was used in a very special way, the way the scene is light up is by an old side light that maybe have been used back in the times from when the beatles were still together giving it that setting of feeling of the setting.

  • Soundtrack (music, sound fx & dialogue)- The Bealtes, Abby Road, Come Together

  • Graphics- the on screen image used in the advert tell us instantly who the adverts about, the type of music, the song and setting the adverts trying to give off, the image explains alot for the plot of the advert.

  • Special FX- The only special effects used in the picture was lighting only.
